Senior Software Engineer - JVM, Kotlin

Simple Machines partners with leading technology providers including GCP, AWS, Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, Confluent, Immuta. Sites in Sydney, London, and Christchurch.

• Strong written and verbal English.
• Consultative approach to software development and engineering.
• Core programming foundation in JVM languages, particularly Kotlin or Java.
• Experience designing and implementing data-driven APIs.
• Exposure to frontend development, particularly React.js, Tailwind, REDUX, and Typescript.
• Past project experience with large scale web services.
• Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
• Infrastructure-as-code (IaC) experience such as with Terraform or CloudFormation.
• In-depth experience with unit and integration testing, test automation; ideally TDD and/or BDD.
• Experience working with SQL databases for implementing data-driven APIs and designing database schemas and queries.

Nice to have:

• Passion and proven ability to adopt new technologies quickly.
• Exposure to Scala or functional programming.
• Experience with DynamoDB or similar NoSQL databases like Cassandra, HBase, BigTable, or Cosmos DB.
• Experience with Git workflows tailored to project needs.
• Experience with containerised application deployment using Docker, Amazon ECS, Kubernetes.

• Design and technically develop backend services for a highly scalable marketing platform.
• Design APIs, applications, and infrastructure; document technical requirements and design for the client.
• Manage end-to-end delivery and support including build, automation, deployment, and operations.
• Collaborate with client stakeholders and team members to gather business requirements and translate them into technical and design specifications.
• Operate within an iterative delivery team using Agile tools and practices.
• Hybrid remote and in-person collaboration with delivery team and client stakeholders.
