Software Engineer II, Backend (Repayment UX Engineering)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. The Repayments Nexus is a Europe-based group owning the end-to-end repayments consumer experience, including the "Manage" tab in the Affirm mobile app, Collections, and Recoveries. The team focuses on building tools and systems to enable customers to repay loans conveniently and to grow the repayments area internationally.

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Experience developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Fluency in backend development and batch processing using technologies like Airflow, Spark, Data Lake, and Snowflake.
• Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, and extensible designs.
• Ability to write high-quality, easily understood, and reusable code.
• Proficient at making significant changes in large codebases with tools and practices to do so safely.
• Demonstrated ownership of personal growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting effective collaboration with a global engineering team.

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
• Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design, and analytics.
• Participate in ideation, articulate technical constraints, and partner on decisions considering risks and trade-offs.
• Proactively identify and lead the resolution of project, process, technology, or business issues.
• Support operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting on-call efforts.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards and advocating for them beyond the team.
• Develop talent on the team by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

*The majority of roles can be located anywhere in Poland. Affirm is a remote-first company with most roles remote within the country of employment.
