Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE & Platform Reliability)

Site Reliability Engineering at Affirm is a small, yet crucial, team that helps Engineering partners to operate their own applications with excellence to protect customer experience. The SRE team has experience across infrastructure, platform, distributed systems, capacity management, load and chaos testing, automation, observability, configuration management, development, and product experience.

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Bash, Python, or Kotlin.
• Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Meaningful experience contributing to or driving parts of the Incident Lifecycle process to improve quality culture, reliability, resilience, and system performance.
• 4+ years working in a Site Reliability or Production Engineering team.
• Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, and extensible design.
• Experience making impactful changes in large code bases and developing tools and practices for safe changes.
• Ownership of personal growth with proactive feedback seeking.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Demonstrates curiosity with empathy and strong opinions loosely held.

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems and ensuring support throughout delivery.
• Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with infrastructure, product management, developer experience, and analytics.
• Participate in ideation, articulate technical constraints, and partner on decisions considering risks and trade-offs.
• Proactively identify technical solutions and operational processes to strengthen incident readiness, response, and post-incident analysis.
• Support operations and availability by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting "keep the lights on" and on-call efforts.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards and advocating for them beyond the team.
• Develop talent by providing feedback and guidance and leading by example.
• Provide data and visibility on application performance.
• Guide the development of SLOs.
• Drive the Incident Management and Analysis process.
• Steer the implementation of Change Management and Deployment practices.
• Engage in service and architectural conversations.
• Recommend observability and alerting configurations.
