Senior Site Reliability Engineer — Observability Engineer | NordVPN

NordVPN runs a global edge infrastructure serving millions of users. This role focuses on understanding the health and behavior of distributed systems in real time and at scale.

• Experience with distributed systems observability, including monitoring architecture, signal design, and dashboarding
• Knowledge of golden signal thinking for monitoring design
• Skills in alert design to reduce noise and build actionable alerts
• Proficiency in Python for scripting, custom exporters, automation, and data processing
• Linux administration and debugging skills
• Understanding of networking fundamentals

Nice to have:

• Experience with SaltStack
• Advanced networking skills including traffic analysis and protocol-level debugging
• Advanced data knowledge such as aggregation strategies, downsampling, cardinality management, and retention trade-offs
• Proven track record of onboarding new systems/services into monitoring from scratch
• Familiarity with agentic engineering, Claude Code, LLM integrations, MCP workflows

• Design, build, and improve monitoring pipelines and observability tooling across globally distributed infrastructure
• Define and implement service-level monitoring based on golden signals (latency, traffic, errors, saturation)
• Reduce alert fatigue by building meaningful, actionable alerts that engineers trust
• Develop and maintain custom exporters, scripts, and integrations for metrics and log collection
• Collaborate with the data team on anomaly detection and data-driven operational insights
• Understand service signals, including what to measure, why, and interpreting the data
