Manager, Engineering (Big Data)

Adform is a media buying platform with over 20 years of history, enabling brands, agencies, and publishers to create, buy, and sell digital advertising globally. The Big Data Group processes, stores, and delivers information within the Adform Flow product and to external clients, transforming raw internet data into valuable information stored in Vertica and HDFS. The Engineering Manager role oversees two teams responsible for backend microservices handling real-time data across various domains such as DMP, Reporting, Algo, and Research.

• Proven leadership experience in managing backend or cross-functional engineering teams
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to align engineers, product, and business stakeholders
• Experience in project delivery with agile practices, prioritisation, and balancing short- vs. long-term goals
• Ability to mentor and grow engineers, fostering career development and high performance
• Solid understanding of engineering best practices
• Problem-solving and decision-making skills with a balance of technical depth and business impact
• Track record of driving operational excellence in performance, reliability, and incident management

Nice to have:

• Prior development experience in back-end microservices in Scala, Java, or Python in Big Data domain
• Knowledge of Big Data technologies like Kafka, Hadoop, Vertica, Cloud technology
• Prior experience in Adtech domain

Team Leadership & Development:

• Hire, mentor, and grow engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning

Project Delivery:

• Plan, prioritise, and oversee execution of backend projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery

Cross-functional Collaboration:

• Work closely with product owners, other development teams, architects to achieve business goals

Operational Excellence:

• Own system reliability, performance, and monitoring; drive incident management and root-cause analysis

Process Improvement:

• Continuously refine team processes (agile, CI/CD, testing) to boost productivity and quality

Stakeholder Communication:

• Communicate progress, risks, and technical trade-offs effectively with leadership and non-technical stakeholders

Technical Guidance:

• Support and challenge the team in making architectural and design decisions, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and maintainable
