Software Development Engineer II

The Messaging Platform team builds and maintains Remitly's communication systems, processing over 100 million messages monthly and supporting customers in more than 170 countries. The team is based in Kraków and focuses on personalized, AI-driven communication and flexible vendor integration.

• 3+ years of experience building distributed, event-driven, or platform systems at scale (5+ years total engineering experience).
• Proficiency in one or more core languages: Go, Java, Python, JavaScript.
• Experience delivering resilient, observable, and compliant systems where reliability is non-negotiable.
• Excitement for platform engineering: building systems others depend on, balancing flexibility, performance, and cost efficiency.
• Bonus: Familiarity with messaging vendors such as Twilio, Braze, SES or lifecycle marketing platforms.

• Design and scale event-driven systems that power customer communication globally.
• Partner with product managers, AI researchers, other product teams, and your own team to deliver the next generation of messaging tooling.
• Build scalable event-driven architectures to support marketing platforms and lifecycle messaging.
• Support junior engineers and contribute to team growth through knowledge sharing and guidance.
• Write clear technical documentation, including specs and architecture designs, for complex systems.
• Debug and improve systems to ensure efficiency at scale.
• Stay updated on industry trends and bring innovative ideas to improve the messaging platform.

Work model: hybrid based in Kraków city center office, typically three days on-site and two days remote.
