Middleware Administration & Operations Lead

We are seeking an experienced Middleware Administration & Operations Lead to manage, optimize, and protect enterprise middleware platforms that enable application deployment, integration, communication, and runtime execution. You will ensure reliable and secure application delivery, high availability, and operational stability across web servers, application servers, messaging platforms, and integration middleware, while providing technical leadership to L2 Middleware Analysts.

• Expert-level multi-platform middleware administration – MS IIS, IBM WebSphere, IBM MQ, Tomcat, Apache (administration, patching, configuration, lifecycle management)
• Advanced performance tuning & JVM expertise – JVM settings, thread pools, garbage collection, connection pools, MQ channels & queues
• Security, TLS & integration – TLS, cipher suites, certificate binding, PKI, hardened configurations, access control, authentication mechanisms, integration with load balancers (NetScaler/F5), WAF, DNS
• Migration, observability & messaging – Observability/monitoring for middleware (logs, metrics, alerts, tracing), messaging patterns (IBM MQ, JMS), migration and consolidation, containerization (WebSphere Liberty, Tomcat on Kubernetes), cloud-based middleware
• Scripting, leadership & people management – PowerShell/Bash/Python/Ansible automation, mentoring L2 analysts, managing on-call rotas, vendor management, compliance and license management, collaboration with application development teams

• Lead Middleware Platform Management & Performance Optimization
• Oversee deployment, patching, version upgrades, and lifecycle management of MS IIS, IBM WebSphere, IBM MQ, Tomcat, and Apache
• Drive JVM, thread/heap, garbage collection, connection pool, and MQ channel tuning to ensure high availability
• Lead incident response for outages, performance degradation, routing issues, and integration failures
• Enforce TLS, hardened configurations, access control, cipher suites, certificate binding, and PKI
• Manage integration with NetScaler/F5 load balancers and collaborate on WAF, DNS, and application routing infrastructure
• Oversee secure decommissioning of middleware assets
• Mentor L2 analysts, manage on-call rotas and vendor escalations
• Lead migration to containerization and cloud (WebSphere Liberty, Tomcat on Kubernetes)
• Develop automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible) for operations, capacity planning, and health reviews
• Support audit readiness, license management, DR tests, governance, and maintain middleware documentation
