Software Engineer II, Backend (Merchant Data Platform EU)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. The Merchant Data Platform is a backend, foundational service at Affirm responsible for merchant data and identity across all merchant touchpoints. The platform serves millions of requests per day, supports merchant onboarding, and maintains strict availability and latency SLAs. The team also maintains sophisticated pipelines for merchant identification, risk analysis, and fraud detection.

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems.
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to write clear, well-tested, and extensible code.
• Comfortable navigating large code bases, debugging, and providing code review feedback.
• Proactive ownership of personal growth and seeking feedback.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.

• Break down larger projects into individual tasks and deliver them in multiple phases with support from tech lead and manager.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics during product development lifecycle.
• Create and monitor metrics, escalate issues, and support on-call efforts to maintain operations and availability.
• Participate in growth and development activities such as the interview process.
