Senior / Lead Automation Engineer

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation, Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or another engineering/science-based discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong automation engineering experience, preferably in subsea production control systems, offshore oil & gas, or industrial control system environments.
• Practical experience with PLC and HMI/SCADA technologies such as Siemens, ABB, Schneider, Rockwell, TwinCAT Soft PLC, or Ignition SCADA.
• Experience with industrial communication protocols like Modbus TCP, CAN, Ethernet UDP, Ethernet/IP, OPC, or OPC UA.
• Good understanding of software development methodologies, object-oriented design, source control, code quality, development processes, and process improvement.
• Experience preparing and reviewing requirements, design specifications, interface specifications, test requirements, technical documentation, and software/project deliverables.
• Knowledge of subsea control modules, EPU, MCS, hydraulic/electrical distribution systems, or similar control system architecture.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and delivery skills including system-level debugging, use of analytical tools, report writing, presentation, knowledge sharing, stakeholder cooperation, and project planning.
• Ability to travel to and work at sites as assigned by the company.

Nice to have:

• Experience with digital technologies, remote monitoring systems, or cybersecurity standards for industrial control systems.
• Experience in product development cycles, prototyping, technology qualification, or field trials.
• Strong project management skills.

Senior Automation Engineer responsibilities:

• Engineering, integrating, and delivering subsea production control system solutions covering hardware, software, PLC/SCADA, HMI, industrial communication, and system integration.
• Developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting PLC and SCADA applications, including creating functions from scratch, using source control, and maintaining code quality through engineering best practices.
• Preparing and reviewing key technical deliverables such as System FDS, software requirements, software design documents, system architecture, control narratives, interface specifications, project/design requirements, and test procedures.
• Ensuring engineering delivery aligns with contract specifications, client expectations, local regulatory requirements, and industry standards like API 17F, IEC, and ISO.
• Supporting system testing, troubleshooting, optimisation, and standardisation of automation solutions across projects.
• Participating in design reviews, risk assessments, innovation workshops, and technical reviews to improve quality, safety, efficiency, and product differentiation.
• Contributing to NPI and R&D activities including evaluation of emerging technologies, prototyping, product qualification, field trials, and use of analytical tools.
• Working with global and cross-functional teams, providing technical input to project plans, reporting progress, and travelling to company or client sites when required.

Lead role additional responsibilities:

• Taking ownership of selected control system engineering deliverables and software project execution.
• Providing technical direction, mentoring engineers, and supporting knowledge sharing across the team.
• Influencing design decisions and ensuring cross-project standardisation of engineering solutions.
• Driving improvements in design quality, documentation, engineering processes, software development practices, code quality, and resource optimisation.
