AI Tooling Engineer (Senior/Staff)

VirtusLab is a leading European software consulting and engineering company, home to over 350 EU-based professionals. The project involves working with the core developer tooling team responsible for 30k+ developers in one of the biggest investment banks, focusing on LLM-based tools for developers including evaluation, trials, onboarding, and customization.

• High agency and focus on completing work despite obstacles.
• Ability to use programming languages as tools and pick them on the fly.
• Hands-on experience with agentic, LLM assistance, and/or vibe coding.
• Ability to evaluate LLM tools in client environments.
• Experience with debugging, profiling network and memory issues (plus).
• Excellent communication skills and pragmatic problem-solving.
• Teamwork and good communication abilities.
• Ability to analyze issues and implement solutions collaboratively.
• Experience working with external teams and processes.
• Experience extending developer tooling: IDEs, CI/CD systems.
• Experience with design and creation of TUI, GUI, or web applications (nice to have).
• Willingness to work outside standard hours (after 6:00 PM CET) considered an asset.

• Onboard thousands of new developers weekly to use AI tooling.
• Work closely with vendors and in-house teams to maximize value of tools like Claude Code and Copilot CLI.
• Develop automations, setup, MCPs, and more.
• Support users by running trials, checks, and handling escalations from hands-on support teams.
• Customize LLM tools to fit client environments and workflows.
• Integrate existing and new context sources including various MCP.
• Track user needs and build generic mechanisms fitting multiple teams.
• Balance security requirements with pragmatism and user experience.
