Senior Technical Writer (Data Documentation)

JetBrains is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to join their Data Office department. The role involves creating clear, structured documentation for data, metrics, tools, and services used across various teams including product development, AI solutions, marketing, finance, and sales. The position includes ownership of specific documentation areas, process improvement, project leadership, contributor support, mentoring junior writers, and enhancing documentation quality throughout the department.

• Extensive writing experience within software, IT, or data-related domains.
• Strong technical foundation and understanding of software development concepts and workflows.
• Experience documenting APIs, SDKs, developer tools, data tools, datasets, metrics, data catalogs, or other complex systems.
• Experience with docs-as-code, Markdown or XML, and version control (specifically Git).
• Excellent English and writing skills, with the ability to explain complex topics clearly and empathize with different highly technical audiences.
• Proactive mindset and ability to work independently, take initiative, prioritize tasks, and move work forward.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, including mentoring, knowledge sharing, and improving team workflows.

Nice to have:

• Strong understanding of data analysis concepts and terminology.
• Experience leading or independently completing technical documentation projects.
• Experience improving documentation processes with templates, automation, scripts, or AI tools.
• Experience optimizing content for both human readers and AI-based discovery and reuse.

• Create clear, structured documentation for data catalogs, metrics documentation, user guides, SDK documentation, and UI text.
• Take ownership of a specific documentation area.
• Improve documentation processes.
• Lead documentation projects.

• Mentor junior writers.
• Help raise the overall quality of documentation throughout the department.
