Lead Platform DevOps Engineer

CloudFerro creates technologies used daily by European leaders in science and the space sector, including ESA, EUMETSAT, ECMWF, Mercator Ocean International, DLR, and EGI. The company works closely with the Earth Observation sector to support analyses and better understanding of our planet. The team is building a sovereign European cloud platform from scratch, offering a complete PaaS stack based on Kubernetes and open source, including serverless, managed databases, MLOps, monitoring, and observability. The role involves designing the platform's foundations with full ownership of architectural decisions.

• Experienced DevOps/SRE engineer with hands-on experience building and operating Kubernetes infrastructure at production scale.
• Deep experience with GitOps (ArgoCD/Flux), including designing pipelines for multi-product platforms.
• Practical experience with Cluster API for provisioning and managing multiple clusters.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines including integration tests, ephemeral environments, and release management.
• Proficient in Go and good knowledge of Python.
• Skilled in AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Copilot) as part of daily engineering work.

Nice to have:

• Experience with rolling upgrades and certificate rotation.
• Knowledge of Terraform, Ansible, Harbor, Kamaji, k3s, vCluster.
• Experience with bare metal Kubernetes and chaos engineering.
• Contributions to open source projects.

General responsibilities:

• Own the entire DevOps and maintenance of the PaaS platform.
• Responsible for cluster lifecycle: provisioning, upgrade, scaling, decommissioning (using Cluster API and custom controllers).
• Manage etcd operations: backup, restore, monitoring, disaster recovery.
• Architect, maintain, and standardize the GitOps pipeline for the entire platform.
• Build and manage CI/CD pipelines: builds, integration tests on ephemeral clusters, release management.
• Manage node pools and autoscaling.
• Define deployment and rollback standards for all services.
• Participate in on-call rotation for critical platform incidents.
