Senior Data Center Technician

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) delivers core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Microsoft Azure. The infrastructure includes over 200 Data Centers in 32 countries supporting more than 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses worldwide. The team focuses on environmental sustainability and optimization in data center design and operations.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Extensive experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.

Background Check Requirements:

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements including passing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Technical College degree in Computer Science, Math, Telecommunications, or equivalent work experience.
• Applicable certifications such as CompTIA, Microsoft, Network Certifications.
• Experience with automation tools (e.g., Microsoft Power Automate, Power BI) and basic coding to support process automation.
• Experience operating heavy-load movement equipment (pallet jacks, chassis lifts, etc.).
• Knowledge and execution of organization’s safety programs, policies, and compliance.
• Flexibility to work non-business hours including shifts, weekends, and/or holidays.
• Valid license to drive standard street-legal automatic transmission vehicles within the data center’s local jurisdiction.

• Build strong working relationships with data center and corporate personnel.
• Ensure Secure Access Workstation (SAW) devices meet security compliance standards.
• Receive confidential information to perform BIOS setting changes.
• Manage SAW inventory including ordering, receiving, assigning, re-assigning, and decommissioning devices.
• Provide guidance for common SAW repair issues and escalate user issues.
• Perform Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) for SAWs damaged within 30 days.
• Provide Senior Data Center Technician-level support including power cycles, component swaps, storage media handling, troubleshooting, cable installations, hardware rack/stack installations, and testing.
• Support deployment of on-site data center physical infrastructure including servers, network devices, SANs, Windows Server OS support, parts/component replacement, and hardware troubleshooting.
• Assist Data Center Inventory and Asset Management Team with shipping, receiving, and inventory management during high work volumes.
• Embody Microsoft culture and values.
