Technical Product Manager (IntelliJ Scala Plugin)

JetBrains develops developer tools including the Scala plugin for IntelliJ IDEA, which supports Scala developers by improving their development workflows and tooling experience.

• Professional software development experience in Scala.
• At least five years of experience in technical product management or a comparable role in a complex technical domain.
• Works closely with the product rather than relying solely on reports and meetings.
• Experience with AI coding tools and agents, with curiosity about their impact on developer workflows.
• Ability to define clear roadmaps with problem statements, success criteria, and explicit trade-offs.
• Strong written and spoken communication skills in English for technical peers and executive audiences.
• Willingness to represent the product externally at conferences, blog posts, and community interactions.
• Personal commitment to developer experience as part of daily workflow.

Nice to have:

• Experience developing IntelliJ Platform plugins or working with the IntelliJ Platform SDK, or other technical experience with language tooling and IDEs.
• Experience building or contributing to evaluation pipelines, benchmarks, or quality measurement systems.
• Experience giving technical talks or publishing content aimed at developer audiences.

• Own the product vision for the Scala plugin, ensuring fast, correct, and trustworthy IDE support evolving with the language.
• Analyze product usage statistics and conduct user interviews to base decisions on real workflows.
• Use IntelliJ IDEA with the Scala plugin daily to dogfood features, catch regressions, and validate developer experience.
• Maintain and develop reference projects for showcasing new features, conference demos, and testing developer experience quality.
• Own and adapt the plugin roadmap for short-term releases, mid-term initiatives, and long-term Scala ecosystem projects.
• Align plugin planning with Scala compiler releases and IntelliJ IDEA release trains.
• Make trade-off decisions, saying "no" when cost, risk, or maintenance outweigh user value.
• Define problem statements, success criteria, and feature scope, collaborating with engineers to validate and refine them.
• Represent core Scala stakeholders and prioritize recurring pain points such as false positives, slow analysis, unreliable refactorings, onboarding issues, and AI agent integrations.
• Coordinate with Developer Advocates, IntelliJ IDEA and Marketing teams, and other JetBrains teams.
