Software Engineer - Backend & Data (Eastern Europe)

Spate is a machine intelligence platform used by top industry beauty brands to analyze over 20 billion search signals and spot the next big beauty trend. Founded in 2018 by two ex-Googlers, Spate uses data science to predict consumer trends in beauty, personal care, wellness, and functional food. The company has approximately 90 clients in the U.S., including major brands such as L’Oréal, Estée Lauder, and Unilever. Spate is funded by Y Combinator and Initialized Capital.

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a software engineer working on backend and ETL for web applications
• Experience collecting, cleaning, and analyzing large data sets
• Proficiency in Python
• Proficiency in SQL
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Project management skills and ability to handle multiple priorities at different timescales
• Proven problem-solving skills using deductive reasoning and identifying gaps in logic
• Self-starter with ability to work independently
• Located in Eastern Europe

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency in at least one of the following tools: Power BI, Tableau, Google DataStudio
• Excellent analytical and customer-facing skills with attention to detail
• Experience working with AWS, GCP, or Azure

• Support customers and staff in understanding and exploiting the platform, data, and tools
• Ensure the availability of the platform, data, and tools
• Define and implement improvements related to security, quality, testing, automation, documentation, and new features for the platform, data, and tools
• Contribute to sprint planning, backlog grooming, and task prioritization
• Estimate effort required for development tasks and help create project timelines
• Track and report on progress, addressing delays or roadblocks proactively

This is a remote, full-time contractor position available only to candidates located in Eastern Europe.
