Staff Java Software Engineer

The Sports Data & Odds Engineering organization at Sportradar develops, delivers, and operates a broad portfolio of products powering a global sports data and betting ecosystem. The team processes millions of real-time events daily for media companies, sports federations, betting operators, and consumer apps across 120 countries, supporting over 30 sports disciplines including e-sports. The Warsaw development teams contribute to multiple products and initiatives, building distributed systems operating at global scale and delivering mission-critical 24/7 services.

• 8+ years of professional software development experience with extensive Java expertise and a strong track record in large-scale distributed systems
• Ability to lead architecture and technical strategy across multiple teams or products with real business impact
• Deep expertise in AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern platform engineering with sound judgment on their use
• Experience mentoring Senior Engineers and shaping engineering culture without direct management authority
• Clear communication skills at all levels, from technical deep dives to strategic leadership conversations
• Ability to define engineering standards and long-term roadmaps that teams actually use
• Experience in real-time, high-availability systems or mission-critical environments at global scale is a strong advantage
• Background in sports technology, betting, fintech, or other highly transactional environments is a plus; ability to learn domains quickly is valued

• Define and drive technical architecture and engineering strategy across multiple teams and product areas
• Lead the design of scalable, high-performance distributed systems that process millions of real-time events daily
• Own complex cross-functional initiatives with significant business impact, from first principles through to production
• Set engineering standards, architecture principles, and the long-term technical roadmap for your area
• Mentor Senior Engineers and act as the technical anchor for teams working through ambiguous, high-stakes problems
• Influence engineering, product, and leadership stakeholders and translate technical strategy into business outcomes
• Bring deep expertise in AWS, cloud-native platforms, Kubernetes, and event-driven architectures to organizational decisions
• Lead platform modernization, technical transformation, and large-scale migration initiatives where needed
