Tech Lead (Backend): Fraud

BVNK is a company founded in 2021 focused on building stablecoin-native infrastructure to accelerate global money movement. • 7+ years of backend engineering experience in Java or Kotlin with Spring Boot.
• At least 2 years in a Tech Lead or senior technical leadership role.
• Strong expertise in distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS), relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL on Aurora), and caching (Redis).
• Experience with fraud detection, financial crime, or risk systems including fraud engines, rule engines, risk scoring, and transaction monitoring.
• Proven architectural leadership with ability to define technical vision, write ADRs, and lead architecture reviews.
• Experience designing real-time decision systems for low-latency, high-stakes transaction flows.
• Strong cross-domain collaboration skills with engineering teams, product managers, compliance, and fraud analysts.
• Excellent communication skills for risk surfacing, stakeholder facilitation, and presenting technical strategy.

Nice to have:

• Experience with fraud engines such as Unit21, Sardine, Feedzai.
• Background in payments fraud or financial crime compliance engineering.
• Experience with device intelligence platforms and behavioural analytics.
• Familiarity with on-chain fraud intelligence tools.
• Experience building fraud case management integrations with Salesforce or similar.
• Understanding of regulatory frameworks for fraud prevention.
• Experience with consortium-based fraud data sharing models.
• Experience managing team cognitive load and applying Team Topologies interaction modes.

Technical ownership & architecture:

• Define and own the fraud engineering architecture including real-time fraud decision services, event enrichment pipelines, device and behavioural signal collection, fraud engine integration, and case management connectors.

Team growth & engineering culture:

• Build and mentor the fraud engineering squad with tailored work assignments and knowledge-sharing.
• Set and maintain engineering standards including coding, review, testing, and observability.
• Track and reduce technical debt proactively.
• Promote a healthy engineering culture fostering collaboration and continuous learning.

Cross-domain collaboration & delivery:

• Lead cross-domain technical alignment with various teams such as Payments Orchestration, Digital Assets, and FinCrime.
• Drive architecture reviews and author RFCs and technical briefs.
• Build fraud reporting and metrics pipelines integrating with Snowflake and QuickSight.

Operational excellence:

• Own production reliability for fraud services with observability, runbooks, alerting, and incident response.
• Contribute hands-on engineering while balancing technical direction and team growth.
