eCommerce Technical Lead (Contract, Remote)

Apex Wheels is a company hiring for a senior technical lead role focused on complex ecommerce platforms at scale, including Magento 2, Adobe Commerce, Shopify Plus, and BigCommerce. The role involves working with a U.S.-based company and collaborating with external agencies and vendors. The position supports ecommerce platform integrations with ERP, OMS, PIM, and CDP systems.

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with at least 3 years on complex ecommerce platforms (Magento 2, Adobe Commerce, Shopify Plus, BigCommerce, or equivalent).
• Strong hands-on experience with JavaScript and TypeScript, shipping production work in Vue 3 and Nuxt or comparable frameworks like Next and React.
• Experience with headless or decoupled frontend architectures integrated with commerce backends.
• Experience integrating ecommerce platforms with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred; SAP, Dynamics, Salesforce acceptable).
• Hands-on experience with platform-level caching technologies such as Varnish and Redis.
• Solid practical knowledge of CI/CD, code review, monitoring, and incident response.
• Understanding of UI and UX principles to evaluate frontend work beyond functionality.
• Experience working with external agencies and vendors, including scoping, reviewing deliverables, and managing quality.
• Familiarity with PHP and Magento 2 sufficient to review backend code and architectural decisions.
• Additional pluses: early technical leadership experience, Magento 2 frontend modernization (Hyvä, PWA Studio), Elasticsearch, and Algolia.

• Own the execution of the technical direction, quality, and uptime of the ecommerce platform and its integrations.
• Lead backend platform review, setting quality gates, managing schedule, and making senior technical decisions on Magento 2 implementation.
• Write, review, and ship frontend code using Vue 3, Nuxt, and Sanity alongside partnered agencies.
• Drive reduction of technical debt through refactoring, pattern replacement, and internal team growth.
• Own integrations between Magento and ERP (NetSuite), payments, OMS, PIM, and CMS systems.
• Address ecommerce problems such as checkout friction, returns workflows, performance bottlenecks, data consistency, and third-party reliability.
• Participate in production issue resolution and contribute to improving monitoring, deployment, and reliability.
• Conduct substantive engineering reviews on code from internal and external contributors, providing actionable feedback.
• Push back on external recommendations conflicting with platform health or long-term business outcomes.
• Establish and reinforce standards for code quality, documentation, and development workflows.

Candidates must be legally authorized to provide independent contractor services from their country of residence and able to invoice a U.S. company directly or through their business entity. Reliable high-speed internet and a dedicated workspace are required. The role requires comfortable English communication and occasional international travel. Physical requirements include ability to sit at a computer for extended periods and light lifting.
