Senior Experience Designer – Inventor

Autodesk is a global software company focused on product design and manufacturing solutions. The role is within the Inventor Experience Design (XD) team, which works on professional mechanical design and documentation workflows, aligning with the broader Fusion ecosystem.

• 5+ years of experience in experience design, UX design, product design, or related fields.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in UX design or related fields such as human-computer interaction, industrial design, architecture, or mechanical engineering.
• Strong fundamentals in human-centered design, interaction design, information architecture, and usability best practices.
• Experience designing for complex software workflows, ideally in desktop or professional-grade environments.
• Experience with Autodesk products, Inventor, or adjacent CAD/CAM technologies like Fusion, AutoCAD, Mastercam, SOLIDWORKS, Onshape, Creo.
• Experience designing solutions for complex product experiences such as 3D modeling, assemblies, documentation, simulation, or data-rich workflows.
• Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or comparable tools.
• Experience conducting or partnering on user research, including interviews, workflow studies, and usability testing.
• Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Strong communication and storytelling skills to explain complex topics to non-technical audiences.
• Ability to influence decisions, drive alignment, and work effectively across disciplines and time zones.
• Ability to take ownership of ambiguous problems and drive work from concept through execution.
• Interest in emerging technology and curiosity about AI and automation to improve product experiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience designing specifically for Inventor workflows including mechanical design, assemblies, documentation, or manufacturing use cases.
• Domain familiarity with mechanical engineering workflows, product development, or digital manufacturing.
• Experience shaping end-to-end workflows spanning multiple systems or tools.
• Familiarity with design systems and reusable interaction patterns for complex software.
• Experience prototyping or evaluating AI-driven interactions including intelligent assistance, workflow automation, generative experiences, or conversational patterns.
• Understanding of responsible AI design considerations such as trust, transparency, control, explainability, and human oversight.
• Experience mentoring other designers and raising team quality through critique and guidance.
• Experience balancing near-term product delivery with longer-term UX strategy and platform cohesion.

• Lead experience design for complex Inventor workflows and features, focusing on design, documentation, and mechanical design experiences.
• Partner with product managers, engineers, architects, and designers to frame problems, shape strategy, and define user-centered solutions.
• Plan, create, and communicate design artifacts including sketches, workflows, wireframes, prototypes, and detailed UX specifications.
• Translate customer needs, research findings, and product goals into clear interaction models and scalable design directions.
• Participate in customer research, usability studies, and validation activities to understand workflows and pain points.
• Prototype and explore AI- and automation-enabled experiences to improve clarity, efficiency, trust, and user control.
• Help the team critically evaluate where AI adds value and where human judgment must remain central.
• Communicate design rationale clearly to diverse audiences including engineering, product leadership, QA, sales, and marketing.
• Contribute to design critiques and team rituals, providing feedback, mentoring, and collaboration.
• Review implemented features, test plans, and documentation to ensure alignment with design outcomes.
