Mid/Senior Game Designer

Awaken Realms is one of the largest board game publishers globally and an ambitious video game developer. Their digital successes include Tainted Grail: Conquest and Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, with the latest project being the extensive Sanctuary of Sarras DLC. The company focuses on creating games prioritizing gameplay quality over monetization.

• Minimum 4–5 years of experience in game design, including work on titles requiring high-quality feel/flow (e.g., action, RPG, platformers, soulslike).
• Deep understanding of gameplay physicality and control responsiveness.
• Proficiency in iterative design.
• Practical knowledge of any game engine (preferably Unity or Unreal).
• Ability to create clear design guidelines regarding feel and flow.
• High awareness of UX in gameplay context, beyond just interface.

Additional requirements:

• Extensive knowledge of games.
• Experience playing on consoles, including Nintendo.
• Ability to explain why Quake III Arena is better than Unreal Tournament.

Nice to have:

• Experience with combat design.
• Scripting skills.
• Portfolio of prototypes.

• Designing and iteratively improving game feel, including control responsiveness, action timing, animations, and visual/audio feedback.
• Creating and optimizing gameplay flow, rhythm, pace, and player progression dynamics.
• Inventing, prototyping, and testing new functionalities.
• Collaborating with programmers, animators, VFX, and audio teams.
• Mentoring designers, level designers, and other teams on player experience-focused design.
