Ontology Engineer/Semantic Data Engineer

ITFS is a consulting company from the Tricity area with a branch in Warsaw. It primarily focuses on IT specialist recruitment and creating project-based Software Houses for clients from Poland and Western Europe.

• Higher education in Computer Science, Information Science, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or related fields.
• Practical experience in ontology engineering, semantic modeling, or knowledge representation.
• Very good knowledge of Semantic Web standards: RDF/RDFS, OWL, SPARQL, SHACL.
• Experience translating business or domain requirements into semantic or information models.
• Good knowledge of metadata, controlled vocabularies, and data interoperability issues.
• Ability to work with multiple data sources and collaborate with technical and business stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.

Nice to have:

• Experience in the life sciences industry (biology, chemistry, pharmaceutical R&D).
• Knowledge of ontology design patterns and related design trade-offs.
• Familiarity with FAIR Data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).
• Experience in CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls), scientific data acquisition, or working with ELN (Electronic Laboratory Notebook) systems.
• Knowledge of Jira, Confluence, and Agile work environments.

• Designing, developing, and maintaining ontologies, semantic models, and controlled vocabularies.
• Defining and implementing mappings between source data and ontological concepts.
• Collaborating with domain experts to define terminology, relationships, and semantic structures.
• Evaluating and integrating external ontologies where justified.
• Co-creating management processes, documentation, and lifecycle of semantic resources.
• Supporting integration with knowledge graphs, metadata platforms, and data products.
• Ensuring semantic consistency, interoperability, and reusability of solutions across domains.
