Software Engineer ( Data Integration)

Bayer is a company focused on health and agriculture, aiming to solve global challenges. The role is part of Bayer's Customer Engagement Team working on improving system and data integration capabilities within Pharma Commercial.

• At least 3 years of experience as a software engineer.
• Excellent experience with SQL, specifically Snowflake SQL, including complex queries, data validation, and performance optimization.
• Excellent expertise in programming with Python, using FastAPI for API development.
• Good knowledge of PostgreSQL for relational data storage and querying.
• Good knowledge of AWS services, especially those relevant to data integration and bridging to analytics platforms.
• Good understanding of test-driven development using testing frameworks and API test methodologies.
• Proficiency with Git, GitOps workflows, and collaborative development using GitHub.
• Experience with API design, specification, and documentation using OpenAPI and Swagger.
• Experience with message queues and transport systems such as Kafka and/or Cloud Messaging Queues is a plus.
• Experience with PR review practices and maintaining code quality standards.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitHub Actions.
• Experience working in teams using agile practices or frameworks such as Scrum, XP, or Kanban.
• Effective use of AI coding assistants to accelerate development.
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration solutions like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Exposure to monitoring and observability solutions like OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Amazon CloudWatch is a plus.

• Collaborate in a small team consisting of 3-5 engineers of different expertise levels.
• Build and maintain data integration services and APIs using cloud components and the Internal Developer Platform (Backstage).
• Validate, query, and optimize data products using Snowflake SQL, ensuring data quality, correctness, and performance.
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs using Python and FastAPI to expose and integrate data services within Pharma Commercial.
• Apply GitOps practices to manage infrastructure and deployment configurations.
• Conduct thorough PR reviews, ensuring code quality, security best practices, and adherence to team standards.
• Leverage AWS services to bridge data flows to the Analytics Data Platform (ADP).
• Design and specify APIs following contract-first principles using OpenAPI and Swagger.
• Foster the effective usage of AI coding assistants within the team’s development workflow.
• Identify, locate, and fix faults.
• Maintain team product portfolio to ensure they meet business needs and performance targets.
