Senior Back-end Engineer (Node.js)

SwingDev—a hippo company is the Polish branch of a fast-growing InsurTech product company – Hippo Insurance. They focus on making home insurance smarter and more proactive using technology, creating digital products that support customers with impactful solutions.

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience with Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Practical knowledge of at least one relational database system (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).
• Experience with microservices and system design patterns.
• Ability to engage in software design and architecture discussions and decisions.
• Independent problem-solving skills.
• Ability to clearly convey ideas across technical and non-technical teams.
• Demonstrated responsibility, accountability, and ownership in delivering high-quality work.
• Experience implementing the test pyramid (unit, integration, end-to-end tests).
• Effective use of good security practices.
• Willingness to learn and expand skill set as required.
• Good command of English (written and spoken).
• Availability in the afternoons for occasional evening meetings across time zones.

• Architect and implement backends and their interactions with various data stores and other APIs (including 3rd party APIs).
• Work in an agile environment focusing on projects impactful to the business.
• Support reliable databases and APIs for real-time automated decision-making.
• Deploy software using industry-standard tooling like Kubernetes clusters and Lambda functions.
• Investigate and resolve production issues by analyzing code, data, and system behavior, proposing and implementing timely fixes.
• Ensure security in all activities and raise the baseline for defending user data.
• Implement robust automated test suites to ensure high quality and low failure rate of delivered code.
• Work in a DevOps style to follow Defense in Depth principles and secure containers.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Senior Engineers, and Architects to understand business processes and turn them into high-quality code with automated tests.
• Take ownership and responsibility for work and have creative freedom to influence the project.
• Develop programming skills and learn about tech business practices in the US.
