Senior Software Engineer

Tesco Technology is a technology team of over 4,000 experts across 5 countries: UK, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, and India. The teams focus on strategic ownership of architecture, design, testing, deployment, infrastructure, operation, and security of systems to ensure agile, smooth, and safe operations with maximum business impact.

• Around 6+ years of experience as a Software Engineer within the JVM ecosystem.
• Experience working in an Agile environment.
• Excellent understanding of language & framework and good working knowledge of the abstraction layer underneath.
• Ability to take a business problem and develop technical strategy, high-level design, and lead implementation.
• Minimal direction needed and ability to collaborate with SDEs across teams.
• Exemplary behaviour in design, delivery, code, and processes.
• Influence technical and business strategy by suggesting novel approaches.
• Able to communicate ideas and get feedback from different stakeholders.
• Continually propose and drive process improvements.
• Help elaborate requirements where necessary.
• Demonstrated technical leadership.
• Knowledge of Java 21.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with Splunk and New Relic.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure and OpenShift.
• Knowledge of RESTful web services.
• Experience with web application frameworks (Spring preferred).
• Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Microservices and Distributed Systems.
• Familiarity with testing tools (JUnit, Spock, Mockito, WireMock).
• Experience with Git, Maven and/or Gradle, and other CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions or equivalent).

• Be a coder; review and contribute code.
• Focus on performance, availability, reliability, and security.
• Contribute to the definition of features for services owned by your team.
• Effectively communicate your and your team’s progress to your Team Members, Manager, and wider Tesco colleagues.
