UI Programmer

Plot Twist is an indie game studio developing Erosion, an open-world, twin-stick roguelike game set in a post-apocalyptic Wild West. The team previously created The Last Case of Benedict Fox and is focused on crafting player-driven experiences.

• Strong UX instinct focused on clarity and player attention
• Experience shipping UI-heavy game interfaces such as inventories, skill trees, shops, progression screens, and HUDs
• Ability to read design documents and mockups to identify readability issues before coding
• Strong programming fundamentals in Unreal Engine 5 and C++
• Solid experience with UMG/Slate, Common UI, and data-driven UI architectures
• Comfortable managing complex, stateful screens synchronized with live systems
• Write maintainable code
• Thrive in small, evolving teams and able to switch context between architectural decisions and fine UI details

Nice to have:

• Experience with roguelikes, action games, or build-and-loot projects
• Good eye for motion and game feel, comfortable collaborating with 2D artists
• Experience with localization-ready UI and controller/PC input parity
• Familiarity with Perforce
• Previous shipped game experience

• Own the UI layer: architect and build clean, reusable, data-driven UI for menus, HUD, inventory, build and skill screens, camp upgrade flow, map, and timeline interface
• Make complex systems readable by turning dense systemic data into interfaces players can parse quickly
• Bridge design and engineering by working closely with the Game Director and UI/UX Designer to translate UX intent and mockups into maintainable code
• Enhance user experience with transitions, interactions, and input parity across controller and mouse/keyboard
• Contribute hands-on by solving layout and state problems, fixing bugs, and improving game communication
