Engineering Manager

SwingDev—a hippo company is the Polish branch of a fast-growing InsurTech product company – Hippo Insurance. They focus on making home insurance smarter and more proactive using technology, creating digital products that support customers with impactful solutions. Hippo Plus is one of their newest ventures, bundling home insurance with extended warranty coverage and proactive home maintenance, operating like a startup within a larger company.

• Strong software engineering background with understanding to mentor and push back when needed.
• Experience leading a technical team, ideally during product scaling.
• Experience working with and leading distributed, remote teams across time zones.
• Appreciation for Product as a partner and co-owner of software products.
• Focus on end-users and customer-centric solutions.
• Proven ability to build teams, develop individuals, and influence cross-functional teams and senior management.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
• Product-minded and close to business side, not just codebase.
• High technical proficiency with JavaScript/Node.js and React.
• Great command of English and communicative Polish.
• Availability in afternoons for multinational team meetings.

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers (4 engineers, mostly senior) and lead recruitment for a second team.
• Manage Hippo Plus engineering space end-to-end, from technical direction to delivery.
• Introduce structure, processes, and good engineering practices.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to manage project roadmap, clarify requirements, and balance technical excellence, agility, and user benefit.
• Partner with business stakeholders to translate business needs into engineering priorities.
• Balance new feature development with operational needs of a fast-scaling product.
• Show strong technical leadership with a data-driven mindset, focusing on execution and high-quality software.
• Coordinate with teams in global locations across the US, Brazil, and Poland.
