Backend Architect

Housecall Pro’s brand portfolio includes Business Coaching by Housecall Pro, a business coaching solution for home services businesses. The company supports more than 45,000 businesses and has over 1,800 teammates globally, with half of the engineering team located in Poland.

• 9+ years of experience designing, building, and operating complex production systems.
• Deep experience in modern backend frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, Django, or Spring Boot.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages including JavaScript, Python, Go, Java, and Node.js.
• Expertise with cloud platforms like AWS, containerization, and serverless/cloud-native architectures.
• Proven success applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles.
• Experience architecting and building event-driven systems using distributed messaging tools such as Kafka and SQS.
• Experience defining and improving CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, Gitlab) and automated testing strategies.
• Expertise in scalable API design and management (RESTful APIs; GraphQL is a plus).
• Strong background in system observability (logs, metrics, tracing) and performance diagnostics.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Passion for using AI technologies to enhance productivity and innovation.
• Curiosity about emerging AI/ML technologies and practical applications.
• Ownership mentality balancing urgency with long-term system health.

• Drive the long-term technical vision and architecture across multiple squads.
• Own complex technical challenges and mentor engineers.
• Transition platform from monolithic Ruby on Rails to distributed, event-driven architecture.
• Collaborate with engineering leaders and architects to design scalable and reliable systems.
• Define sub-system boundaries and recommend functionality placement.
• Develop and enforce code quality standards.
• Identify and drive architectural enhancements and strategic refactorings.
• Design and implement automated tests at the architectural layer.
• Conduct code and architectural reviews.
• Maintain and improve continuous integration and development environments.
• Lead code and architectural reviews to promote engineering excellence.
• Mentor engineers across the organization.

This role is open to candidates inside Poland only. The salary for the successful candidate will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills and experience.
