Senior Data Engineer

Vatix is a fast-growing SaaS company founded in London and Kraków in 2019 focused on Governance, Risk, and Compliance software with emphasis on Health & Safety and Operational Excellence. Their platform is trusted by over 800 businesses and government organisations worldwide, including Cambridge University, Siemens, and Intel. The product suite includes web applications, mobile apps, IoT-enabled safety devices, and data platforms.

Technical Skills:

• Strong SQL and experience with cloud data warehouses such as Redshift, BigQuery, or Snowflake.
• Solid understanding of ETL/ELT, CDC, and data pipeline design.
• Strong relational data modeling skills with awareness of performance, cost, and scale.
• Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and data work.
• Comfort with JSON, structured/semi-structured schemas, and querying APIs.
• Experience building data products or dashboards.

Ownership and Planning:

• Proven track record of owning data work end to end.
• Skilled in backlog planning and early technical decision-making.
• Sound judgment on trade-offs regarding correctness and readiness.
• Strong ownership and responsibility for delivered work.

Mindset:

• Openness to an AI-enabled SDLC, using AI as a tool to direct and verify.
• Curiosity about emerging data tooling.
• Self-starter with a collaborative and proactive approach.

Soft Skills:

• Excellent English communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Curious and questioning mindset.

Nice to Have:

• Experience in B2B/enterprise SaaS, especially security, compliance, or data-heavy products.
• Experience with embedded analytics or BI tooling.
• Experience with AWS data services like Redshift, Glue, Athena, S3, Lambda, and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform.
• STEM degree or equivalent practical experience.

Own the data platform:

• Own and evolve the AWS-based data warehouse including Postgres RDS, Redshift, and data pipelines.
• Ensure replication, models, and transformations are reliable, secure, and performant.
• Build and maintain data infrastructure powering customer-facing dashboards.

Set the strategy and own the backlog:

• Own the technical data backlog and set priorities.
• Get involved early in product and architecture decisions, including rebuilds.
• Automate manual, reactive data work such as analytics dataset management and dashboard provisioning.

Own data architecture and cross-cutting projects:

• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to embed analytics ensuring data isolation per customer.
• Lead data and integration projects, including designing inbound APIs with authentication, field mapping, and validation.
• Build and maintain data integrations with systems like HubSpot, including connectors and APIs.

Set direction and raise the bar:

• Establish technical data standards and act as a data expert.
• Collaborate within a small data team promoting quality standards.
• Act as guardrail on AI-generated pipelines by validating and hardening them.
• Champion data quality, governance, and accessibility organization-wide.
