Staff Software Engineer - Edge

Zendesk is a company that powers billions of customer service conversations worldwide. The Edge Engineering team manages critical services including Zendesk's CDN, cloud firewall, load balancing, and proxying tier across a global cloud infrastructure.

• 5+ years of experience in DevOps or production engineering roles focused on high-traffic, customer-facing distributed systems.
• 5+ years experience with edge-related technologies including HTTP, TLS, load balancing, reverse proxying, CDN, and DNS.
• Hands-on experience with scalable server-side solutions in continuous integration environments.
• Proficient with Linux, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms.

Nice to have:

• Experience in modern SaaS companies.
• Passion for problem identification and resolution.
• Strong documentation and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of caching and CDN solutions like Cloudflare, CloudFront, and Fastly.
• Experience with cloud-based observability tools (metrics and tracing).
• Experience or willingness to write code in Go.

• Build and manage the proxy tier handling billions of HTTP requests daily.
• Manage the global CDN platform for efficient asset delivery.
• Collaborate with an experienced engineering team.
• Ship code to production and enhance user experience.
• Review peers' code, changes, and deployment plans.
• Utilize modern technologies including AWS, Cloudflare, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Go.
• Apply DevOps best practices such as "we build it, we run it."
