Manager, Software Engineering

Relativity is a leading legal data intelligence company building an AI-powered, cloud platform called RelativityOne. It serves law firms, corporations, and government agencies by transforming complex data for litigation, investigations, and other high-stakes legal work. The company focuses on enabling users to uncover insights using cloud-native architecture, AI, and modern tools.

Required:

• 5+ years software engineering experience with minimum 2 years in leadership or management
• Proven ability to hire, lead, and grow engineering teams
• Hands-on software development experience with programming languages such as Java or Python
• Experience designing and building API-based and microservices architectures
• Practical experience with NoSQL databases like MongoDB and modern data platforms
• Solid understanding of data-driven development including data modeling, ingestion, and processing
• Experience integrating AI tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude, Cursor) and AI-powered APIs
• Experience with SaaS or enterprise-scale distributed systems
• Strong knowledge of system design, scalability, and reliability (SLOs, observability)
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

Preferred:

• Experience building AI-powered or AI-native features such as prompt engineering, RAG, LLM integrations
• Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming platforms
• Experience with government-facing applications under FedRAMP compliance
• Background in legal tech or eDiscovery
• Exposure to strategic planning and execution at scale
• Passion for intuitive, data-informed user experiences

• Lead and mentor software engineers and architects across multiple product areas
• Drive development of existing applications and new AI-driven platforms
• Architect and promote API-first, service-oriented systems ensuring scalability and extensibility
• Provide hands-on contribution in software design, coding, and integration
• Guide adoption of modern data technologies including NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
• Enable teams to build AI-powered features leveraging LLMs and machine learning APIs
• Allocate and validate engineering resources based on Scrum and business priorities
• Ensure best practices in secure, scalable API design and integration patterns (REST, event-driven, microservices)
• Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations
• Promote domain knowledge sharing and technical excellence
• Provide technical leadership and strategic advising to business stakeholders
• Represent direct reports in career growth and assignments discussions
• Stay current with AI, distributed systems, and data platform trends
• Support organizational initiatives including AI adoption and process improvements
• Participate occasionally in Level II technical support after hours
