[Opendoor] ML Engineer

Founded in 2014, Opendoor's mission is to empower everyone with the freedom to move by building a digital, end-to-end customer experience for buying and selling homes. The company supports more than 100,000 homes bought and sold and aims to simplify complex real estate processes. The Assessments & ML engineering team focuses on end-to-end assessment of properties, including data gathering, video and 3D mesh data processing, and deep analysis, influencing high-stakes real estate decisions.

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering and machine learning.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills working with data scientists and researchers.
• Comfortable with data pipelines, model training pipelines, and production environments.
• Proficient in writing maintainable, modular, and testable Python code.
• Motivated by impact and learning beyond infrastructure building.

Nice to have:

• Experience with ML systems in business-critical environments like pricing or forecasting.
• Familiarity with MLflow, Airflow, Delta Lake, or Spark.
• Interest in real estate or messy, high-stakes domains with imperfect data.
• Experience with video and 3D data especially in augmented reality.

• Work closely with researchers and analysts to deliver production-grade models for complex real estate data.
• Own and operate model pipelines end-to-end including training, validation, versioning, deployment, and monitoring.
• Contribute to shared ML infrastructure and tooling.
• Support day-to-day model operations addressing challenges like retraining, drift, and decay.
• Navigate real estate-specific ML challenges including heterogeneous data and complex seasonality.
• Drive engineering best practices in the ML codebase ensuring maintainability, testability, and scalability.
