Software Engineer Backend

The role is within the team building Microsoft Fabric Activator, focusing on distributed systems that process millions of events per second to enable real-time experiences in Microsoft Fabric. The team values learning, collaboration, and operates in a high-trust, low-process environment.

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent experience.
• Technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

• Experience in large-scale cloud backend development.
• Proven ability to design, implement, and test scalable systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
• Experience working with real-time analytics or telemetry systems.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and data pipelines.
• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent experience with listed programming languages.

• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation approximately every 8-9 weeks.
• Design, implement, and operate large-scale cloud services supporting real-time analytics workloads.
• Develop clean, efficient, and maintainable solutions to complex technical challenges.
• Architect and enhance backend systems for high availability, reliability, and performance.
• Optimize services for large-scale data ingestion and processing.
• Ensure robust testing and validation strategies for production-ready systems.
• Identify, use, and evangelize appropriate artificial intelligence (AI) tools and practices across the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire and every two years thereafter is required.
