Senior DataBase Engineer (#5463)

The role is for a Senior Database Engineer working on an HR SaaS platform serving public-sector and government agencies. The project involves migrating on-premises Microsoft SQL Server databases to Amazon RDS in a production environment. The engineer will work embedded in a cross-functional team including Backend, DevOps, and the client's existing DBA and QA teams.

• 5+ years experience as a DBA / Database Engineer in production environments.
• Deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administration: Always-On Availability Groups, replication, backup/restore, log shipping, Change Tracking, performance tuning, and T-SQL.
• Proven experience migrating SQL Server workloads to AWS, specifically Amazon RDS for SQL Server.
• Strong understanding of high availability and disaster recovery concepts including RPO/RTO, cutover, and rollback planning.
• Hands-on experience with AWS: RDS, networking (VPC, Transit Gateway), S3, monitoring, and IAM.
• Ability to troubleshoot database connectivity, latency, and routing in hybrid on-premises plus cloud topologies.
• Experience coordinating with client-side DBA teams and managing phased multi-environment rollouts.
• English proficiency at Upper-Intermediate level or higher.

Nice to have:

• Administration experience with PostgreSQL and migrations from SQL Server to PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with EF Core, Npgsql, and .NET application data layers.
• Experience with AWS DMS for heterogeneous migrations.
• Infrastructure-as-Code experience with AWS CDK and CI/CD-driven database migrations.
• Exposure to regulated/compliance environments (e.g. FedRAMP).

• Execute migration of OLTP databases from on-premises Microsoft SQL Server to Amazon RDS for SQL Server (Multi-AZ).
• Provision and configure Amazon RDS instances, including parameter groups, option groups, backups, and Multi-AZ high availability.
• Validate RDS feature compatibility, such as Change Tracking and CLR SAFE assemblies.
• Diagnose and fix database-layer issues during parallel run and cutover, including network latency, connection-string routing, command timeouts, and replica behavior.
• Define and rehearse cutover and rollback runbooks with designated failover/failback timings and validation steps.
• Support quality assurance parity testing and performance baselining.
• Establish monitoring, alerting, and backup/recovery using CloudWatch, Performance Insights, and point-in-time recovery.
