Engineering Manager - FE/Fullstack (Enabling Functions)

Tesco Technology is focused on delivering technology solutions for enabling functions such as HR, Payroll, Learning & Development, and Workforce Management platforms, serving over 300,000 colleagues globally. The Enabling Functions - Colleague technology team plays a key role in this effort, with a global, distributed team environment.

• 10+ years in software development with proven experience managing engineering teams
• Proven track record of driving technical excellence and change
• Experience in global distributed teams
• Strong understanding of Software Development Lifecycle and multiple methodologies including Scrum & Kanban
• Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns, microservice architectures, and event sourcing
• Experience with automation, configuration management, multi-cloud, IAAS, and PAAS
• Deep expertise in one or more programming languages (e.g., TypeScript, React, Java)
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, event-driven systems, and distributed computing
• Experience with cloud platforms (preferably Azure), Docker, Kubernetes
• Hands-on knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, test automation, infrastructure-as-code
• Proven experience designing and building scalable mobile and web applications focusing on usability, performance, and responsiveness
• Excellent problem-solving, strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, and communication skills
• Ability to influence technical teams and senior stakeholders

• Conduct performance assessments, provide feedback, and guide career development for team members
• Mentor development team on best practices, design principles, and coding standards
• Ensure processes and standards for high-quality software delivery
• Communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape technical strategy and roadmap
• Define project scopes, timelines, and align with business goals
• Monitor project progress, mitigate risks, and maintain enterprise standards
• Foster innovation and explore new tools and methodologies
• Inspire the team to deliver clean, efficient code based on industry standards
• Create comprehensive technical documentation
• Implement security tools (e.g., SonarQube, Snyk) and oversee security best practice adherence
• Manage application performance and asset monitoring (e.g., Splunk, New Relic) for seamless operation
