Full Stack Engineer (Python / React)

Focal Systems is a company working with data from over 300,000 IoT devices deployed across major grocery retail chains worldwide. The engineering team ships weekly releases and works on tools for store employees involving planogram compliance and shelf monitoring powered by computer vision. The team values ownership, pragmatic use of AI, and strives to solve real problems with data-driven development.

• 6+ years of professional software development experience
• 3+ years hands-on experience with Python (FastAPI, Flask or similar) or other backend languages
• 3+ years experience with React and TypeScript
• Solid experience in REST API design and development
• Experience with data-intensive applications and/or microservices architecture
• Experience with relational databases (MySQL or similar)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines
• Applied experience with unit and integration testing
• Ability to work independently and take full ownership of features
• Fluent in Polish and advanced English in both written and spoken forms
• Flexibility to adjust working hours to accommodate a global, time zone-diverse team
• Strong work ethic and commitment to meeting deadlines

Nice to have:

• Experience with GCP (Google Cloud Platform)
• Experience with Grafana and dashboard creation
• Experience with Kafka or other message brokers
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm charts
• Experience implementing observability solutions such as Prometheus
• Experience with UI frameworks Material UI (MUI) or Tailwind
• Experience writing Node.js and Bash scripts
• Familiarity with computer vision or IoT data pipelines

• Build and maintain scalable backend services using Python (Flask, FastAPI) that process data from 300,000+ IoT devices
• Design and develop REST API consumed by internal and customer-facing applications
• Build and improve React/TypeScript frontend features, translating designs into code and refining UI components
• Write database queries to analyze feature usage and debug production issues
• Build deployment monitoring and diagnostic tools for system health across geographies
• Create tools to provide transparency and access to geographic and varied data sets
• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure data formats support frontend, middleware, diagnostics, and Deep Learning pipelines
• Debug customer issues remotely across the full stack and develop smart solutions
• Partner with product team to bridge backend capabilities and user experience
• Support customer success team by solving client problems
• Evaluate incoming requests balancing effort and value
• Expand test coverage for critical backend services and frontend flows
• Refactor code to reduce complexity and improve maintainability
• Participate in weekly releases to customers
• Present shipped work to the company
