Data Engineer

The Data Engineering department at Tesco Technology processes data in retail and technology, focusing on logistics optimization, managing critical order and supplier data, and ensuring data integrity and security. The team collaborates on data-driven initiatives, supporting multiple systems and products.

Mandatory skills:

• Data Processing experience with Apache Spark, using Scala or Python
• Data Storage knowledge of Apache HDFS, CEPH S3 or cloud equivalents
• Resource Manager experience with Apache Yarn or cloud alternatives
• Familiarity with Lakehouse technologies like Apache Hive/Kyuubi or alternatives
• Workflow scheduling using Airflow or alternatives

Nice to have:

• Functional programming
• Apache Kafka
• Kubernetes
• Stream processing
• CI/CD pipelines

• Creating and maintaining optimal data pipeline architecture
• Assembling large, complex data sets meeting business requirements
• Identifying and implementing internal process improvements, including automation and scalability
• Building infrastructure for extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from various sources
• Developing analytics tools to support insights into customer acquisition and operational efficiency
• Assisting stakeholders including Executive Product, Data, and Design teams with data infrastructure needs
• Ensuring data security and separation
• Creating data tools to support analytics and data science teams
• Collaborating with data and analytics experts to enhance data system functionality
