Software Engineer

Sporting Risk Limited provides innovative price feeds and content to companies in the gaming and media sectors. The company leverages predictive modelling powered by extensive and granular data collected internally and originated from a betting syndicate. Their data collection and predictive modelling initially focused on football and has recently expanded into US sports, maintaining a broad pricing, product, and content portfolio across multiple sports. The role is fully remote with opportunities to travel to the London head office and company offsite meetings.

• Experience with Python and services deployed on AWS.
• Understanding of distributed systems and messaging including delivery guarantees, idempotency, message ordering, backpressure, and failure modes.
• Experience in service and storage architecture for responsive services under load.
• Data engineering skills including ingestion, entity resolution, consensus, and defensive integration of real-world data feeds.
• Strong grasp of performance and concurrency models relevant to asynchronous Python including GIL and IO/compression trade-offs.
• Knowledge of cloud cost and deployment safety considerations.
• Ability to write idiomatic, simple code with surgical refactoring and inherent testing instincts.
• Strong debugging and system reasoning skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration abilities with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ownership and judgment in driving ambiguous problems to decisions.

• Design, build, and maintain robust integrations with external data providers and client-facing APIs.
• Ensure real-time data feeds are accurate, performant, and resilient.
• Develop new features and products in collaboration with trading, data science, and technical support teams.
• Take ownership of code quality, testing, and deployment practices.
• Help shape the infrastructure as the business grows.
