Senior Database Engineer, VP

Charles River Development (CRD) is the FinTech division of State Street. It provides cloud-based Front Office technology forming the foundation of the State Street Alpha® Platform, the first front-to-back solution in the industry. The engineering organization is innovating by moving from monolithic software to next generation cloud-based technology leveraging Microsoft Azure, Kafka, and Snowflake.

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with enterprise applications using RDBMS or Snowflake
• Extensive experience as a Database Architect or similar role supporting enterprise applications
• Hands-on expertise with RDBMS and distributed data platforms as a database developer
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot database issues
• Proficiency in SQL performance tuning in MS SQL Server, Oracle, or Snowflake
• Proven record of building high-performance production-quality software on schedule
• Ability to work independently, multitask, and adapt to changes
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to have:

• Expert experience with hardware sizing, operating systems, scripting, and various database technologies
• Experience with NoSQL databases
• Experience with cloud database services such as Azure SQL Database or AWS RDS
• Minimum 7 years working with Agile development methodology
• Experience developing applications for financial markets (Fixed Income, Trading, FX, Risk, Portfolio, Market Data, FIX)

Database Design and Architecture:

• Design and implement scalable, performant, and highly available distributed database solutions
• Collaborate across scrum teams to design databases conforming to best practices and business requirements
• Create and maintain documentation of database designs, data models, configurations, and processes

Database Development and Optimization:

• Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts supporting application development
• Optimize performance through indexing, query optimization, and tuning techniques
• Monitor database performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and recommend solutions
• Collaborate to define performance test strategies and develop toolsets for synthetic dataset generation
• Implement and manage database security including access controls, encryption, and auditing

Database Administration:

• Collaborate with production DBA team to troubleshoot and resolve production issues timely
• Monitor and maintain database health ensuring data integrity, availability, and disaster recovery
• Perform installation, configuration, and upgrades in lower environments

Collaboration and Leadership:

• Provide thought leadership on database technologies and data modeling
• Collaborate with engineering, SaaS Operation, support, and implementation teams for integration
• Provide technical mentorship to junior database engineers
