Software Engineer - Backend (Colleague Clubcard API)

Tesco Technology Hungary develops enterprise-grade APIs powering flagship colleague benefits like the Colleague Clubcard and Retirement Savings scheme, operating at a large scale with international projects. The role is based in Kraków, Poland, within a hybrid work model.

• 4+ years of hands-on experience as a Software Engineer within the JVM ecosystem (Java / Spring Boot).
• Good understanding of cloud platforms, preferably Azure, and experience with Infrastructure as Code, e.g., Terraform.
• Solid grasp of software engineering fundamentals including testing strategies, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD), version control (GitHub), and code review.
• Ability to take business or product requirements and contribute to defining the technical approach.
• Able to work independently with minimal guidance.
• Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum or Kanban).
• Proactive mindset comfortable proposing improvements, identifying risks, and shaping better ways of working.

• Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable, and highly reliable backend services for colleague benefits.
• Contribute to feature design and technical discussions ensuring solutions meet business and compliance requirements.
• Own services end to end including development, deployment, monitoring, and operational support with a DevOps mindset.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement robust long-term fixes.
• Communicate progress, risks, and technical insights within the team and with Tesco stakeholders.

This role requires the candidate to be based in or near Kraków, Poland, with approximately 60% of the workweek spent collaborating in-office or local sites and the remainder remote.
