Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Identity International)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, offering buy now, pay later options without hidden fees or compounding interest. The Identity team supports Affirm's international expansion, managing identity verification, KYC, user lifecycle management, and identity decisioning across multiple regulatory environments outside North America. The team consists of six engineers based in Spain and Poland.

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Experience developing highly available distributed systems using technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to define technical plans with elegant, simple, and extensible designs.
• Ability to make significant changes in large codebases safely.
• Proactive ownership of personal growth and seeking feedback.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration.

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team.
• Lead engineers through ambiguous problems to solutions.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics through the product development lifecycle.
• Identify and advocate for project, process, technology, or business improvements.
• Support operations and availability by creating and monitoring metrics and supporting on-call efforts.
• Foster a culture of quality through setting and improving code review and design standards.
• Provide feedback, guidance, and mentorship to team members.
