Staff Backend Engineer - JVM (Java/Kotlin) & AWS

• 8+ years building backend systems in production with end-to-end ownership
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and influencing technical direction
• Strong expertise in Java or JVM languages (Kotlin, Scala) and the Spring ecosystem
• Proven experience designing and operating distributed systems under load
• Hands-on experience with Amazon AWS services like S3, SQS, SNS, Lambda, IAM including cloud-native architectures
• Experience with Docker and containerized deployment workflows
• Practical experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with tools like GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins
• Fluency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor)
• Strong understanding of concurrency, data consistency, and system reliability
• Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational/NoSQL databases like MongoDB in high-throughput environments
• Proactive ownership and problem-solving approach

Nice to have:

• Experience with large data volume or high request throughput systems
• Architectural trade-off decision experience (synchronous vs asynchronous)
• Experience adopting AI-assisted development practices
• Familiarity with Terraform, MongoDB, Kubernetes, AWS data tooling (Athena, Glue, Batch, Step Functions)
• Background in partner integrations or migrating monolithic to cloud-native systems

• Design and evolve distributed backend systems focusing on scalability and correctness
• Take services from architecture decisions through deployment and day-to-day operation
• Maintain and build partner integrations delivering large-scale data
• Build and operate cloud-native systems on AWS, including migrations from monolithic architectures
• Monitor system health, troubleshoot production issues, and optimize performance, memory, and latency
• Collaborate closely with Product and Data teams to deliver impactful features
• Drive cross-team architecture decisions and mentor engineers
