Senior Software Engineer, Back-end, (Repayment Scheduling)

The Repayment Scheduling engineering team is focused on building and owning the backend system that automates user payments at a scale of up to $40B per year, improving the financial lives of over 20 million people. The backend team is entirely located in Europe within the same time zone and operates with a Silicon Valley cultural influence.

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Experience developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to define technical plans for significant features or components with elegant, simple, extensible design.
• Skilled at making significant changes in large codebases with tools and practices ensuring safety.
• Demonstrated proactive ownership of personal growth with feedback seeking.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with a global engineering team.

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
• Support peers and stakeholders in product development by collaborating with product management, design, and analytics.
• Identify project, process, technology or business issues, advocate, and lead resolution.
• Support operations and availability via metrics monitoring, escalation, and on-call efforts.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership through setting/improving code review and design standards.
• Develop talent on the team by providing feedback and guidance, leading by example.

The job is remote within Poland, with most roles allowing location flexibility within the country. Affirm is a remote-first company with some roles occasionally requiring office presence.
