Database Migrations Engineer

• Genuine strength in both MySQL and Postgres, with balanced capability across both.
• Direct experience with database migrations in a customer-facing role, comfortable owning technical execution alongside customers.
• Productisation instinct to identify and package repeatable patterns within bespoke migration work.
• Strong written and asynchronous communication skills to facilitate knowledge sharing in a fully remote environment.
• Comfort defining the scope and shaping the function of the migration role.

Nice to have:

• Experience at database tooling or infrastructure companies like PlanetScale, Percona, or Vitess.
• Experience building tooling or automation for migration workflows.
• Familiarity with AWS-based infrastructure or PaaS environments.
• Experience with AWS DMS or similar migration tools.
• Public writing, speaking, or teaching experience on database topics.
• Some familiarity with PHP applications.

• Execute database migrations with enterprise and Private Cloud customers by owning the technical execution during calls, focusing on MySQL and Postgres.
• Assume ownership of the PlanetScale relationship and migration work, taking over the current ad-hoc process and managing it autonomously.
• Productise repeatable migration patterns by documenting and packaging common downtime-tolerant migrations for repeatability and future self-serve solutions.
• Automate recurring migration requests to reduce manual effort for frequently recurring one-off requests.
• Own broader app and service migrations in available capacity for Private Cloud migrations beyond databases.
• Distribute learned knowledge by creating runbooks, reference materials, and training to improve Sales, CS, and engineering teams.
• Monitor database market offerings like PlanetScale, Aurora, and Percona to keep offerings competitive and advise on needed changes.
