Mid Software Engineer, Observability

• 4+ years of experience using higher-level languages such as Go, Rust, Python, Java, Scala, Javascript, Ruby, or PHP.
• Experience with infrastructure/configuration languages including Terraform/HCL and Helm/YAML.
• Experience with service observability best practices and tools, ideally OpenTelemetry and Prometheus.
• Hands-on experience with modern cloud technologies like GCP, AWS, or/and Kubernetes.
• Experience in configuration and maintenance of applications such as web servers, load balancers, databases, storage systems, orchestration, and/or observability platforms.
• Experience supporting critical production services.
• Ownership mindset and technical pride in work.

• Design, build, and evolve the telemetry platform and instrumentation standards for reliable operations across Box’s globally distributed services.
• Partner with service teams to implement effective observability across logs, metrics, traces, alerts, and SLOs.
• Make engineering tradeoffs around telemetry cardinality, sampling, retention, and cost to deliver scalable observability.
• Define and promote OpenTelemetry-based instrumentation practices.
• Improve observability as a developer and maintainer of systems and frameworks.
• Participate in on-call rotation to investigate, triage, and resolve production issues.
