Backend Test Automation Engineer (m/f/n)

• Minimum 4 years of experience with Java for backend and API test automation.
• At least 3 years of API testing experience.
• At least 2 years of experience with SoapUI for SOAP testing or Postman for REST testing.
• Minimum 2 years building and maintaining backend, non-UI-centric test automation solutions.
• Experience with message format standards: XML, XSD, XPath, WSDL, JSON, JSON Schema (minimum 2 years).
• Experience with Jira, Zephyr for defect tracking and test management (minimum 2 years).
• Experience with version control systems like Git (minimum 2 years).
• Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and API contracts such as OpenAPI and WSDL.
• Excellent English communication skills (minimum B2 level).

Nice to have:

• Experience with eDelivery standards: OASIS ebMS3, AS4, SMP, BDXL, ebCore PartyId profiles.
• Experience with Groovy scripting within SoapUI.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines like Bamboo or GitLab CI.
• Experience with test data management including database seeding, mock services, and environment isolation.
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker.
• Experience in international or intergovernmental organizations, European Institutions, or large public administration.
• Ability to produce structured technical documentation in English.
• Good knowledge of French (minimum B2 level).
• Advanced profiles with over 15 years of professional experience.
• Senior profiles with over 20 years of professional experience.

• Write robust and maintainable backend and API test automation code using Java.
• Design, prepare, and monitor automated tests for APIs, web services, and backend systems.
• Develop automated test suites for SOAP and REST web services using SoapUI, Groovy scripting, Postman, or Newman.
• Create backend test automation architecture covering functional, integration, and contract testing layers.
• Validate message format correctness and protocol-level behaviour including HTTP, TLS, and WS-Security.
• Integrate automated backend tests into CI/CD pipelines.
• Prepare structured and comprehensive test reports.

Occasional travel to Brussels may be required with 7 days’ notice. Two physical meetings per year planned for the contractor with customer at own cost. The work is mostly far-site from within the EU.
