Solution Architect

Currently, for one of our Partners, we are looking for an experienced Solution Architect (m/f/n) to support a long‑term project delivered for an organization of the European Commission based in Brussels.

• Education: EQF7 in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or IT.
• Minimum 10 years as IT solution architect and project leadership.
• At least 5 years participating in technical standardisation bodies (OIDF, ISO, CEN/CENELEC, ETSI).
• Author or co-author of at least 2 peer-reviewed IT, electronics, or mathematics publications.
• Minimum 1 year experience in tokenisation projects aligned with EU regulatory frameworks.
• At least 7 years in systems and software architecture design, including governance and documentation (min 10 years overall).
• Experience designing enterprise applications, middleware, microservices architectures, and APIs (minimum 7 years).
• At least 5 years working with cloud services (AWS, Azure) and observability practices using Go, C++, or equivalent languages.
• Minimum 10 years experience with networking concepts and protocols.
• At least 5 years applying cybersecurity principles and standards (e.g., ISO 27001, OWASP, Zero Trust).
• Minimum 7 years with OAuth2 and OIDC; at least 5 years with OID4VC or similar credential protocols.
• At least 5 years with data models like W3C VCDM, SD-JWT, mDoc; minimum 2 years defining digital signature profiles.
• Minimum 1 year experience with zero-knowledge proof frameworks (e.g., Gnark, Longfellow-zk).
• At least 1 year implementing real-world asset tokenisation.
• Minimum 1 year experience with EU carbon market policies.
• At least 1 year experience with customs procedures.
• Excellent English proficiency (minimum C1 CEFR) with strong communication skills.

• Lead research, design, and validation of software architectures for the EU Verify service.
• Conduct advanced technical research on distributed ledger technologies, decentralized identity protocols, cryptographic mechanisms, and trust infrastructures.
• Evaluate architectural approaches via technical analysis, modelling, proof-of-concepts, and performance assessments.
• Assess impact of emerging standards, scientific advances, and regulatory developments; provide recommendations.
• Provide technical leadership aligning research, software engineering practices, and long-term strategy.
• Produce architectural studies, technical white papers, and research reports.
• Design business and technical architectures meeting business needs with measurable non-functional requirements.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements.
• Evaluate and select technologies and frameworks.
• Create and maintain architectural artifacts including Solution Context diagrams, C4 views, API contracts, data models, threat models, and deployment diagrams.
• Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and reliable.
• Guide development teams during implementation.
• Conduct architecture reviews ensuring adherence to enterprise standards like OWASP.
• Identify and mitigate potential risks and technical challenges.
• Define integration patterns, data flows, and API standards (OpenAPI/AsyncAPI).
• Identify and define architecture for verifiable credential exchange.
• Define signature profiles for verifiable credential and tokenization use cases.
• Define zero knowledge proof for unlinkable and privacy preserving proofs.
• Define digitalization strategies for public administrations.

Services must be performed from within the EU. Two physical meetings with the customer are foreseen per 12-month period, maximum 2 days each. These planned meetings are at the contractor’s cost.
