Software Engineer I, Backend (Collections)

Affirm is reinventing credit to be honest and friendly, providing consumers flexible buy now, pay later options without hidden fees or compounding interest. The Collections team is part of the Repayments area, focused on building a robust platform to maximize recovery of delinquent users by delivering targeted messages, monitoring problems, and ensuring high system reliability. The team collaborates closely with product managers, backbook risk teams, and other engineers to manage loans during delinquency phases and implement recovery strategies.

• Previous work or internship experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with either Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to develop solutions interacting with multiple software components using clear, well-tested, and extensible code.
• Comfortable navigating large codebases, debugging, and providing code review feedback.
• Demonstrated ownership of personal growth, proactively seeking feedback.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.

• Work on tasks contributing to the team's projects and goals with team support.
• Collaborate proactively with team members and stakeholders to create visibility and discuss risks and trade-offs.
