Senior Product Engineer (TypeScript)

Playbook is a leading creator platform for fitness, health, and wellness that operates as a remote-first, product-driven team in the fitness tech space. The company focuses on helping fitness creators build sustainable businesses and supports hundreds of thousands of users to live healthier lives.

• 5+ years of professional software development experience with TypeScript as the primary language, including advanced proficiency with complex types, generics, and conditional types.
• Proven experience shipping production applications end-to-end and owning features from design to release.
• Daily active use of AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode) for development, debugging, and problem-solving.
• Strong communication skills in English and comfortable collaborating asynchronously in a remote, cross-timezone team.
• Deep senior expertise in at least one of the following areas:
  • Web (ReactJS) with knowledge of modern frontend patterns and styling frameworks such as TailwindCSS.
  • Backend (Node.js) with expertise in GraphQL schema design, relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), and query optimization.
  • Mobile (React Native) including production app shipping, native module integration, and app store releases.
• Working proficiency in the other two areas and motivation to grow senior-level skills across all three.

Nice to have:

• Experience with Next.js, NestJS frameworks.
• Familiarity with Expo / EAS or native iOS/Android tooling.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, observability, and logging.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services such as Lambda, Step Functions, SNS/SQS, DynamoDB, and ECS.
• Experience building or integrating payment and subscription flows (e.g., Stripe).
• Previous work in a startup or fast-growing product company environment.

• Design and implement new features across the stack (Node.js, ReactJS, and React Native) focusing on usability, clarity, and real user value, including shaping APIs and GraphQL contracts.
• Focus most time in your deep expertise area while contributing across web, backend, and mobile with features, tasks, and code reviews.
• Build and evolve reliable and maintainable backend services and APIs (REST and GraphQL).
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers to translate requirements into scoped technical solutions.
• Contribute to Engineering Requirement Documents defining data models, API contracts, and integration points.
• Write clean, readable, and well-tested code; participate in code reviews; improve existing systems for product or developer value.
• Take ownership of features, identify issues, propose improvements, and iterate based on feedback.
• Break down product requirements into data models, GraphQL types, and component structure before implementation.
