Tech Lead Engineer (PHP / Symfony & AWS)

ALGOTEQUE Innovation Hub is hiring a Tech Lead for a client in the EdTech industry, focusing on modernizing backend services with PHP, Symfony, and AWS technologies.

• Proven leadership experience in driving delivery, mentoring engineers, and making technical decisions.
• Hands-on experience building production applications with PHP, MySQL, Symfony, and Doctrine.
• Real-world experience deploying and operating applications on AWS, including production debugging with CloudWatch.
• Track record of predictable delivery with realistic estimation and sprint management.
• Solid REST API design skills, including security and performance; experience with GraphQL is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of MySQL production optimization (EXPLAIN plans, indexing, query optimization).
• Experience with automated testing in PHP: phpspec and Behat.
• Strong interest in AI-assisted development with hands-on or leadership experience in AI coding agents or spec-first workflows.

Nice to have:

• Experience with messaging and event-driven patterns using RabbitMQ, Redis, or AWS equivalents (SQS, SNS, EventBridge).
• Experience with serverless technologies: Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, Aurora Serverless.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK or CloudFormation.
• Experience integrating with identity platforms like Auth0.
• Understanding of GDPR and secure handling of sensitive data.

• Own technical delivery of sprint commitments, ensuring accurate estimations and managing dependencies and blockers.
• Collaborate with the Product Owner to shape requirements and translate the roadmap into technical plans.
• Mentor engineers, lead code reviews, and spread knowledge to prevent single-owner components.
• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using PHP and Symfony.
• Drive modernization onto AWS, using containerized workloads and serverless services like Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB.
• Diagnose and resolve production issues using AWS CloudWatch logs and metrics.
• Manage the data layer in RDS MySQL, including schema design and query optimization.
• Deliver secure and high-performing REST APIs.
• Champion AI Spec-Driven Development by writing specifications, orchestrating AI coding agents, and validating AI-generated code.
• Participate actively in Agile processes, maintaining Jira and Confluence records.
