Senior Director of Machine Learning (Experiences)

The Tripadvisor Group operates as a global travel and experiences marketplace with brands including Tripadvisor, Viator, and TheFork. Tripadvisor Experiences is a leading marketplace for travel experiences offering over 400,000 travel activities globally.

• Significant experience leading managers and senior technical teams in ML within a complex, scaled organization.
• Proven record of shipping production machine learning systems at scale, ideally for personalization or recommendation.
• Experience building or restructuring ML or data science organizations with effective change management.
• Ability to operate as an executive peer and influence strategy at Director and VP levels.
• Strong technical expertise in modern ML, experimentation, and MLOps.
• Expertise in experimentation and statistics including A/B testing and causal inference.
• MS or PhD in a quantitative field or equivalent applied experience.
• Excellent communication skills to translate complex ML concepts for varied audiences.

• Build and lead a unified ML organization using a hub-and-spoke model.
• Define operating model, decision rights, and service commitments for product areas.
• Own personalization strategy including recommendation, ranking, and search relevance systems.
• Lead data science and experimentation, including predictive modeling, causal inference, and A/B testing.
• Shape the generative AI direction applying LLMs to conversational trip planning and automated content.
• Grow and retain the team by defining career ladders and managing hiring and promotions.
• Set standards for production ML health including deployment, retraining, monitoring, and governance.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Design, and Analytics leadership to translate commercial strategy into an ML roadmap.

This role is a hybrid position requiring 2 days per week in the office located in the UK (London/Oxford) or Poland (Krakow).
